Becoming a Missionary

My beloved brethren, you and I, today and always, are to bless all peoples in all the nations of the earth. You and I, today and always, are to bear witness of Jesus Christ and declare the message of the Restoration. You and I, today and always, are to invite all to receive the ordinances of salvation. Proclaiming the gospel is not a part-time priesthood obligation. It is not simply an activity in which we engage for a limited time or an assignment we must complete as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rather, missionary work is a manifestation of our spiritual identity and heritage. We were foreordained in the premortal existence and born into mortality to fulfill the covenant and promise God made to Abraham. We are here upon the earth at this time to magnify the priesthood and to preach the gospel. That is who we are, and that is why we are here--today and always.

These pictures didn't turn out as well as I would have liked them to. Justin took out his Endowments last night and it was an amazing experience. He really felt the spirit strongly and it was a special moment for him and our family. In the session with us was a man who had served in the California Riverside mission presidency. He learned of Justin's call and was really excited to tell us what a wonderful mission it is and how friendly the people are. The Lord works in amazing ways!

The High Councilmen talked about the process of filing your papers for a mission. This process is done pretty much paper-less now-a-days. He talked about how it used to be done as well as how it is done today. The neatest thing that he told us is that they have two data bases which work side by side for choosing a mission call. One has a list of prospective missionaries and the other has a list of areas which have need for more missionaries to serve. He said they pull up an Elder's name and the spirit tells where the Elder should serve based on the needs in the Church. Then we said a prayer, read a scripture and Dad ordained Justin to the office of an Elder. After that, he read his call and found out he'll be serving.... (you'll have to watch the video of him reading the call to find out).
